CALCIUM... THE REST OF THE STORY Calcium is the tour guide and the referee to nutrients in the soil. Of all the minerals calcium has the ability to lower the electrical conductivity. Minerals that were previously locked up become available for the plant's use. Calcium allows and guides phosphorous to the plants. This process is the start of photosynthesis (production of sugar). Sugar is energy to the plant and energy increase the growth, structure and the nutrient content of the plant. History has proven that the addition of calcium is the only solution to a wide variety of soil problems, including salt, sodium, fungus, weeds, insects, pH, drought resistance, and low plant sugars in the plant. The growth, health and productivity of all plants are determined by the balance and interaction of many nutrients. Calcium's role is to use its electrical power to assist other minerals for an overall healthy soil that produces quality food. Calcium is said to be the “Foundation of Life” and is involved in many metabolic and physiological functions. Proper levels of calcium within the plant strengthen the whole plant. It allow for efficient use of sunlight, carbon dioxide, water, nitrogen and other mineral nutrients. As the nutrients become available to the plant, the plant can create sugar (through photosynthesis) for higher energy content. Higher energy results in a stronger plant with more ability to gather nutrients, compete with weeds, and resist disease and insects. Throughout the world, we stand confident in knowing that the addition of calcium is the only solution to a wide variety of soil problems. Correcting the Cause 1. Identify Your Problem Soil has hardpan, plowman, lumps, and clumps. Soil has increased compaction. Soil has an increase in weed varieties and weed pressures. Soil has developed areas of increased alkaline in low ground. Soil and crop have increased insect pressures. Soil has decreased decaying ability, breakdown of stalks or organic matter. Soil requires increased fertilizer. Soil pH is abnormal. When soil dries out, gaping cracks in the soil appear. When there is rain, soil becomes slick and muddy, or develops a gumbo type soil. Soil contains excessive salt, sodium, or potassium. 2. Explain the problem Some soils are naturally high in salt, sodium, and magnesium. The right calcium can fix these problems. Poor quality irrigation water can cause problems. (addition of extra salt, sodium, or bi-carbonates) Many fertilizers contain excess salt, sodium, chlorine and/or heavy metals which electrically lock-up or tie-up the soil. This decreases the availability of necessary nutrients. Chemicals use anionic or cationic salts as their killing power. The normal half-life allows these products to chemically dissipate, but the electrically locked-up soil prevails. 3. Resolve your Problem The “Right Calcium” can correct the “cause” of your problems. When choosing the calcium product you plan to apply to your soil, consider the following. Most products on the market are calcium compounds. Compounds that contain other minerals that you soil may not need. When evaluating your needs, ensure the products you apply meet the requirements for the soil, without adding extra minerals that may compound the problems, or take long periods of time to break down.
